DTI introduces Price Act to local officials in Rosario, Agusan del Sur
Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur – – The Department of Trade and Industry– Agusan del Sur Provincial Office conducted a briefing on Price Act (R.A 7581) to Sangguniang Bayan Members and department heads of LGU-Rosario on July 27, 2016 at the SB Session Hall, LGU-Rosario, Rosario, Agusan del Sur.
Cerila P. Inson of Consumer Welfare Unit discussed the provision of the Republic Act 7581. As provided in the law, a Local Price Coordinating Council shall be organized to ensure protection of consumers in times of disaster, calamities and like occasions.
About 20 participants representing the Sangguniang Bayan and different departments of the local government unit attended the said briefing. LGU Rosario will soon create LPCC to function its rules as provided in the law through the issuance of an Executive Order.
As provided in the law, the LPCC has the following functions: coordinate and rationalize programs with member agencies to stabilize prices especially in times of disaster; conduct in-depth analysis on causes of price fluctuations; recommend action steps to correct unwarranted price increase and supply shortage; and to recommend to the National Price Coordinating Council or to implementing agencies, suggested retail prices and or price ceilings for prime commodities in the locality.
Republic Act 7581 is an Act providing protection to consumers by stabilizing the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities and by prescribing measures against undue price increases during emergency situations and like occasions.
