When Change Is Not Enough

Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI)—As part of the continuing consumer advocacy of DTI, a consumer education seminar was conducted on October 21, 2016 at the San Jose Negosyo Center, Brgy. Sta. Cruz, San Jose, this province. The said activity was attended by college students of Don Jose Ecleo Memorial Foundation College of Science and Technology (DJEMFCST, San Jose, PDI. Consumer education for the youth can never be more apt in the Philippine setting. The youth, or those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years, holds a considerable chunk of the total consumers in the country.

For this year, emphasis was put on the provisions of the recently passed R.A. 10909 or the No Shortchanging Act of 2016”. Mr. Charlie Bagasbas of DTI-Caraga stressed before the participants that by virtue of this law, customers can now always demand for the exact change when buying goods or services from stores and establishments. Mr. Elmer General of DTI-PDI on the  other hand discussed on the pertinent points of Product and Service Warranty. He reminded that although there are safeguards provided by law on defective products and/or deceptive sales practices, it is always good to be more prudent and more critical before buying anything or availing any service. The consumer education seminar is one of the series of activities conducted by DTI-PDI in celebration of the 2016 Consumer Welfare Month with the theme “Consumer Protection: A Shared Responsibility”.
